WedWednesdayDecDecember28th2011 Thanks for serving on Christmas Eve!

To each of you who helped make our worship services so special on Christmas Eve, a heartfelt thanks! Some of you brought food for the pastors, choir members, audio team and facilities folks who arrived early that afternoon and stayed late into the night, to nibble on between services. Some of you prepared the communion elements for all to share. Some of you readied the candles and the childrens' light up bracelets and the finger puppets of the Nativity. And our Youth passed all of these items out! Some of you stood holding the doors wide open, welcoming guests and members alike. Some of you collected our offering and later made sure it was safely deposited at the bank. Our choirs sang, our accompanists accompanied, our pastoral staff created and offered everyone a holy night of worship. And you came to share in that worship. We have so many blessings for which to be grateful. It is with heartfelt thanks that we close this year and look forward to welcoming in the next!

We had a great turnout at our special Christmas dinner on December 20. One grateful neighbor even knitted gifts for some of our volunteers!

Rob Rhoades and Wayne McNinch took a quick trip to our village, Las Juntas, last week to purchase and deliver Christmas gifts that you all donated. They purchased the gifts, then were blessed to get to be a part of the distribution. Funds were also sent to help with construction projects and other needs.

Our missionaries from Costa Rica, the Zirkel family, were also here last Sunday. They shared great news about how much our partnership is helping the community of Las Juntas, and the orphanage that the Zirkels run.

Thanks to all who contributed their money, time, and talents again this year. Because of your support, we were again able to meet the needs of the Methodist Children's Home, providing them with 124 new bikes and helmets! Special thanks to Academy Sports in Grapevine for working with us on the cost of the bikes and helmets.  We could not have done this without all of you. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry!

WedWednesdayDecDecember21st2011 From a Neighbor...

A happy holiday moment: several youngsters from your church rang my doorbell, sang a carol and offered ornaments they had made themselves. My heart was warmed to have such a personal touch during what seems like a super-sized time (especially in the Christmas Capital of Texas!). When I was a child I never thought that I'd be that old bearded guy in his pajamas wondering who was making that racket on his porch. Or, that more than a half century ago, that my youthful voice and trinket could so warm the heart of an aged stranger. Good job by the Methodists!

WedWednesdayDecDecember14th2011 Worship Arts Thanks
byWren Robinson Tagged No tags 0 comments Add comment
Last Sunday was a great day for Worship Arts in our church! I just wanted to share a word of thanks to you, our wonderful community of faith – you make serving such a blessing!

Special thanks to director Rev. Rita Yoes, costuming expert Cindy Baldwin, and all the marvelous parent helpers for their work with the Children's Worship Arts program, Carriers of Light. And, of course, all the children did an absolutely wonderful job singing, acting and behaving!

The 75th Annual Candlelighting service was once again well-attended and well received. A HUGE thanks to all who were willing to stay after the Sunday services to help with moving items and setting up staging, chairs and stands, as well as striking our set after the performance. I also want to thank all those involved in making Candlelighting a success... from ushers and greeters to cooks and servers to singers and techs to support and program staff. And an extra special thanks to our youth who prepare our candles for Candlelighting and Christmas Eve services. Thank you, church!

Last but certainly not least, many thanks to all the members of our choirs and orchestra, Scott Boiles who is always willing to step in for anything, James Buckner whose talents are many, and Peggy Graff, also multi-talented, for her constant and continued service to this church and love for the music ministry.

Jill and I consider it a blessing to serve you and call this community and church our home.  Have a blessed and merry Christmas!

Wren

WedWednesdayDecDecember7th2011 Las Posadas 2011
byRev. Armando Alvarado Tagged No tags 0 comments Add comment
“A voice cries out:  In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”  Isaiah 40:3

What an exciting time we had at Las Posadas last Sunday! The traditional celebration of Las Posadas represents Mary and Joseph’s pilgrimage toward Bethlehem and their search for shelter. The worship service is a testimony of the willingness of our church to minister among the Latino community. It is an inclusion of religious customs and traditions that Latino people bring. For example, piñatas have a deeper meaning than just breaking them, and charging in for the candy. Piñatas, according to the Spanish missionaries, represent the sin of this world; the stick used to strike the piñata represents God’s power joined to human strength; the shifting rope holding the piñata represents temptation and constant struggle with invisible spiritual enemies; the candies that fall from the piñata represent the victory over evil and the many blessings from God. As the piñata breaks open, sin is destroyed and this opens the way for salvation and the sharing with God’s mercy. Las Posadas is a sign of a growing acceptance of liturgy which reflects the voice, the feelings and traditions of the Latino people.  Founders Chapel and Family Life Center were filled with 250 people engaging and embracing the advent spirit. Bendiciones (Blessings).
